Dubai Chronicles - Part 2a
Our second day (the morning) in Dubai started off with exchange rates and the like, and soon, we were the proud owners of some precious dirhams and fils!
We then set out to visit Ibn Battuta, one of the most famous shopping malls in the city. Dubai is laden with malls, most of which are huge in size. I, for one, didn't chance upon any mall that could be classified as a small one; the malls just kept getting bigger and better! Although, I must admit that I left my heart in Ibn Battuta! The mall is characterized by numerous courts; courts modelled following the architectural details and other idiosyncrasies of the countries they're named after. In fact, the roadway leading to the mall displays numerous colourful flags bearing the names of these very courts.
Also, inside the mall, clear signboards point to the exact location of each court.
Strolling through the mall, we learnt how it came to be called Ibn Battuta. Ibn Battuta was a great traveller and explorer. It is no wonder then that the mall boasted of so many different courts and architecture styles!
The courts in the mall were so true to the country's architecture and style that was being followed that even the restrooms were designed in the respective styles! Ornate earthenware for the restrooms in the Egypt court, the colour red and dragons and the like for the ones in the China court; you get the drift! From the ceilings to the walls to the floors to the hanging lanterns and other paraphernalia, all reflected the style of the country being catered to!
There are so many pictures that I really didn't know which ones to omit and which to include! I've selected what I think are the best!

ahh the pictures almost transport one there...
Umm, nice pictures. The airport is awesome. Exhilarating experience you've had :)
But, to add to a-post-a-day feature, we have two posts in a day? More to come today? Your office is paying you for nothing isn't it? :-P
You should see the place firsthand, aditi... It's awesome! :-)
Thanks, miss iyer.
Well, nope, no more posts today. The 2a was just to differentiate between what we did in the morning and evening. I have too many places to write about and pictures to post to be able to cover everything under one heading, that's all!
Hey SN,
Why not do a feature on food in the UAE? with photographs please :)
The food was hardly that impressive, old monk; just kababs, kababs and more kababs, with some shawarma thrown in in huge chunks!
I actually didn't click pictures of Arabic food; just one picture of the dinner we had the desert safari night!
Wow Presi! Pictures look all so royale! Even the description of them = ) Definitely a shopper's paradise (abit like spore) but in Dubai the malls looks so giantic!! Good God how does one ever finish seeing all the malls! Is that at all possible? and like aditi said - the picture almost transported me there! thanks again SuperN for sharing, will wait with baited breath for more pictures and stories = )
Exactly, mush! The malls are too huge to be covered in the span of a few hours, or even a day! The sheer expanse is mindboggling. In fact, I forgot to mention this in the post, but there is a mall just on the outskirts of Dubai that is a km long! It's called "Dragon Mart" and its length and breadth looked terrific even from the outside!
Ibn Battuta was the best mall we visited I should say, at least it had the most fantastic restrooms I'd ever seen!!! The restroomsrooms were also themed to represent the court we were in...I don't know if any of any of your readers noticed, but one of the pictures (pic 16 in this post) is a lead up to the Egyptian bathroom, you would never guess from the grandeur of the walkway!!!
{a}
Yeah, I know how impressed you were with the restrooms! You wanted to check out the restrooms in all the malls after that!
